Soon the machines will rise

This is mainly testing out some crazy things that I found during my work day. It says it has the ability to post to wordpress so we shall see if it indeed works that way.

The sun sucks.

Back from vacation and now ready to figure out what I shall do next.

Still working on the video stuff, I really don’t have a solid idea on what I want to do. This is probably the most frustrating thing. I have some basic ideas but when I go to try and flesh them out some more they just fall apart. This is proving to be a little more difficult. I should just focus on little things to create here and there.

Still using the hackintosh in combination with linux for this. I have determined that there is no reason to choose mac over anything. Windows accomplishes the same thing and Linux does everything else for free. If you want it to look pretty like mac or work like a mac, just go linux.

The video stuff really bothers me. I think tonight I am going to really get down and try to just make something. Throw ideas around, record people, record people playing things. See what I can come up with. This is kind of disheartening.

Oh god, What have I done?

So, while be slammed at work I got a “brilliant” idea. I decided to make a Hackintosh. For those who don’t know what that is, a Hackintosh is basically a normal PC you can buy/build but you put OSX on it. OSX for those who don’t know is Apples operating system.

Now most people know about my strong hatred towards Apple products and especially towards the fan boys. I decided that I will slap OSX on my laptop and see if I can figure out what the fuss is about and also use my desktop at home with Linux on it. See if I can make the 2 work. I feel like I am slightly cheating since the AV programs on OSX are the same as Windows, but we will roll with this.

I have some interesting ideas regarding my trailers and hopefully will be able to get some concepts out. I may do some writing soon as well, but with vacation looming next week I cannot promise anything. After that though, I should have some awesome ideas for things.

What to do with our new found freedom.

So we have setup a persona with the purpose of not being held down by the restraints of real life. So what can we do with this? Well a whole bunch of things, but I am just going to go over what I plan on doing at first. You can probably get some ideas from that and go on your own if you are playing alot

Getting to know Pinguy

One of aspects of this experiment I am excited about is the Linux part. I love playing with new systems and learning how they work. Anything that provides a challenge I am attracted to and want to solve all of its mysteries. Now this is usually limited to things I suddenly find interest in.  This post is going to be a look through on the basic programs that I am now going to use on a regular basis. Now I am very familiar with Linux so I will try to keep this on a very basic level so people who have no fucking idea what any of this is can follow along.

How can we go ahead and strip it all away?

I had a discusion with a friend about this recently and that is; How exactly do you strip away all the fear and social/religious constraints that are placed on us? One of the purposes of this whole project is to get people to shed them of that fear and get them to do things and create things they normally wouldn’t do.

Now a lot of this stuff has been pounded into our heads since we were children. Be polite, don’t do bad things, etc etc. Now what exactly is bad things? What exactly is polite? That I think is what we need to overcome. We have been told various things and that it has a certain definition. We need to be able to redefine what is good and bad. This is something that you define in your head. Sure society and media and all others might have their set definitions but that shouldn’t hold us back in this situation. Remember, we are not apart of that anymore. We have set a persona that trancends these current influences cause we are now part of this cyber world. It is a very real and very fake world at the same time.

Now that we have that mind set, we can easily break those chains now. We can now take in the information that is available to us and use it to create things, to formulate ideas or anything we damn well please and by anything I mean anything. Good or bad now is in your domain. Can you set aside the things you learned as your grew up and decide to make your own decisions on what is good and bad? I don’t know if you can, but I would like to see you all try.

Getting the basics down

So I have been told that I was not clear in the first post about this experiment. Some people got it instantly, others not so much. So we are going to go over this in hopefully a more coherent way. So hit the read more button to get the basics.

This may or may not work. -Updating-

Ok, so I had this idea last night. I work in the field of Network Security and I deal with computers and the intertubes on a very daily basis for both work and personal things. I started to think, you know what? I want to use Linux as a primary desktop. Problem is, why would I do that? Yes it has its advantages and disadvantages and we could go on and on about that but there is no real reason for me to do it since I have legal copies of windows and everything works fine.

Then I thought of something fun to try. How about I create a problem or a situation where I am forced to use linux and act like it was the only thing in my life. Then I started to think about it more. How about I create a brand new online identity and shove all of my online related things I like to do, gaming, videos and random other internet stuff. That would be interesting, but how about I push it a little further? How about I take all of that and put it in this little world as well as everything I wanted to do but was either too afraid to try or for whatever reasons just never did it.

So basically what I am proposing is to use a Linux distro and create a new identity that may or may not be linked to my personal life. For instance; Say I always wanted to do something, could be anything, in the real world and want people to know about it but don’t really want them to know it’s from Me. You could also just do it to vent, create an alternate version of you where you don’t have to hide who you are because of some social bullshit. So you can be Anonymous or you can link it to your real life if you want. Make these 2 worlds and try to separate it, use the new identity to try new things, explore and learn.

You may be asking, Why the fuck would I want to do this? Honestly? I have no idea. This seems like a lot of fun to me but that is probably cause I see the privacy impact of this. You are created a brand new identity to connect to the virtual world that is a scary place if you think about it. So many companies know so much about you that you can’t get away from it. You could use this to even just be on the web, though if you want to purchase things online you would need to be a little careful in what you have saved and would probably want to use loadable visa/mastercard cash card things, but that is a thing for some other time. The thing is you are always tracked and always monitored. Any privacy that you have online, well, you THINK you have online, is not really there. Facebook uses that info, Google does everyone does. So by doing this you are learning how to protect yourself better.

Now this is not really going to work for me in the aspect of keeping a virtual identity clear of my real one. But I will try what I can. I would like other people to try this. I can help with any issues you may have tech wise but I really want to promote using this setup to do things you normally wouldn’t do. Create things, learn things and mainly just be who you actually are. Do things you are/were afraid of doing. Then when you start to feel comfortable with it, try to merge it with your offline personality. See if it is something you can do.

So we are now going to follow my path into this fun world. We are going to explore the things I have always wanted to do but never felt that I could do them. This should prove entertaining if nothing else.
